Military, medical schools turning to video games for training

What if video games, which help hone critical thinking, could be used to train doctors and other professionals? For the past several years, Johnston has been deeply involved in an effort to develop a game to do just that.

While securing nearly $10 million in federal funding, Johnston assembled a team of experts in trauma medicine, learning theory and video game design to produce "Pulse!!," a research project developed at the Texas A&M System's Corpus Christi beachside campus. It's intended as a supplemental educational tool for medical residents and for continuing education or specialty certification by experienced physicians.
